Trousers Fail Before Shirts Do
In almost every uniform programme the lower half wears out first. Seat and knee take abrasion that a shirt never sees, pockets carry tools and phones all day, and the hem drags on the floor. Yet trousers are usually the item specified last and quoted cheapest.
Weave decides durability
Twill hides creases and abrasion far better than a plain weave, which is why work pants are almost always twill. For heavy industrial use, TC twill from around 220 GSM upward is the sensible floor.
Seat and knee
These two areas take the wear. Reinforcement there extends garment life more than raising the fabric weight across the whole trouser, and it keeps the garment cooler.
Pockets earn their keep
Cargo pockets are practical for technicians and useless in an office. Specify by what people carry rather than by what the style is called.

The Measurement Everyone Gets Wrong
Waist sizing is straightforward. Inside leg is not, and it is where most trouser reorders come from. Staff guess it, spreadsheets carry it over from a previous supplier, and the garments arrive fitting nobody.
Measure inside leg with the footwear actually worn on shift, because a safety boot and an office shoe give different answers. Then decide hem policy before ordering: finished to a standard length, or supplied unhemmed for local alteration. Mixed teams usually do better unhemmed.
We supply size sets so staff can try before quantities are confirmed. On trousers it saves more money than it costs, every time.
Matching Trousers to the Role
- Corporate: twill trousers or chinos that hold a press through a working day
- Healthcare: scrub bottoms that survive daily hot washing without losing shape
- Industrial: reinforced cargo pants, with reflective options where visibility is required
- Schools: hard wearing trousers and skirts that survive a full academic year
Work Trouser FAQs
What fabric should work trousers be?
Twill, in almost every case. The diagonal weave hides creasing and abrasion far better than a plain weave. For heavy industrial use, TC twill from around 220 GSM upward is a sensible minimum, while office trousers can sit lighter.
How do we get inside leg measurements right?
Measure with the footwear actually worn on shift, since safety boots and office shoes give different results. Never carry measurements over from a previous supplier, because sizing is not standard between manufacturers.
Should trousers be supplied hemmed or unhemmed?
For a mixed team, unhemmed is usually better value. It allows local alteration to each wearer rather than accepting a standard length that fits some staff and not others. For a uniform look across a single role, finished hems are simpler.
What is the minimum order for uniform trousers?
Ten pieces. That applies across our range, so a small team can order properly specified trousers rather than buying off the shelf.
Do you make cargo pants with reflective tape?
Yes. Reflective work pants are available where visibility is required. Where the garment needs to meet a certified class, tell us the standard so we specify the fabric and tape correctly rather than adding tape decoratively.
Can trousers be branded?
They can, though branding on trousers is usually limited to a small embroidered logo at the pocket or a woven label. Most programmes brand the shirt and leave the trouser plain, which also simplifies reordering.
